Enables Exchange 5.5 Customers to Migrate Directly to Exchange 2007 PHOENIX — Priasoft, Inc., leaders in Microsoft Exchange migration and management software, announces the immediate availability of the Priasoft Migration Suite for Exchange 4.0 Update, with support for Exchange 5.5 customers to migrate directly to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. Priasoft is the recognized expert in Microsoft Exchange Migration, pioneering the Exchange-to-Exchange migration software market by delivering the first commercial migration products in 1999 and successfully migrating millions of Exchange mailboxes. “Migrating from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange Server 2007 directly is not supported by Microsoft. Until now, Exchange 5.5 customers that wanted to migrate to Exchange 2007 would have to first migrate to Exchange 2003 and then to Exchange 2007. Migrating twice is extremely costly and time consuming,” said Eriq VanBibber, vice president of Enterprise Messaging Products, Priasoft. “Although the majority of Microsoft Exchange customers are now running Exchange 2000 and 2003, a significant Exchange 5.5 population still exists and Priasoft is committed to helping these customers quickly and cost effectively make the move to Exchange 2007.” The award winning and proven Priasoft Migration Suite for Exchange eases the time-consuming tasks of migration, installation and deployment, and includes the ground-breaking Priasoft Quick-Deploy technology. Priasofts Quick-Deploy technology allows customers to fully deploy the product in as few as six minutes. Further easing typical migration challenges, the Priasoft Launch Pad allows users to complete Exchange migrations in a single step from a single location. Designed and built by Exchange experts, the Priasoft Migration Suite for Exchange includes:

New service, in partnership with Mydeo, provides safe and simple way to share personal videos via the Web - minus the advertising MINNEAPOLIS — Best Buy today launched Best Buy Video Sharing, an online-based solution for customers to safely store and share home movies and videos via the Web. Best Buy Video Sharing is a subscription-based service for users to upload their personal videos for sharing on web sites and blogs, with family and friends, or in e-mail messages. Unlike many other video sharing services, Best Buy Video Sharing allows the user to choose who can view their home videos, and enables the user to do so in an advertising-free environment. Best Buy Video Sharing was created in partnership with Mydeo, a provider of quality streaming video hosting for home and business users. The service will be merchandised online and in Best Buys retail stores. Best Buy will also take a minority, equity stake in Mydeo. “With the growing popularity of video, fueled in part by social networking sites, weve actually seen an increase in customer demand for alternative video sharing solutions. Many customers, particularly families with children, dont want their personal memories available for anyone to see in the public domain nor do they want to share them in a cluttered environment that includes advertising,” said Kevin Winneroski, vice president, Best Buy. “Through Best Buy Video Sharing, customers can safely store their videos and share them only with the friends and family they choose.”

Today, most transmission pipelines are cleaned routinely with various types of cleaning pigs. However, the effect of this routine cleaning is rarely monitored and the internal cleanliness of a line is seldom known. The most often asked question is, “When is a pipeline clean?” Inline inspection, corrosion control and increased flow efficiency are the primary reasons for cleaning pipelines. The level of cleanliness and the cleaning approach will vary with each reason. There are certain measures one can use to gauge line cleanliness. The most common are: flow rates, differential pressure measurements, inspection of filters or separators, internal measuring with geometry pigs, condition of cleaning fluids or simple inspection of cleaning pigs during their removal from receivers. There are several important reasons to have a clean pipeline:

Contract carpeting is the specialty at Burmatex, Ossett, U.K., which has been in the carpet business for more than 25 years. The company, which manufactures both needlepunched and tufted carpets and carpet tiles, has a broad product line that includes velours, sport carpets, entrance carpets where effective dirt barriers are needed, academic institution carpets and high end office carpeting. Needlepunched carpets make up 80% of production. The company had its roots in textile waste processing, from which it diversified in the 1960s, making carpet production the core business. Burmatex is a member of the Sirdar Group. The bulk of the companys business is sold into the British market, but it has in recent years been working on increasing its export business. Currently about 12% of sales are outside the U.K., with 6% outside Europe. Like most companies, Burmatex has felt the pressures of the recession and is struggling through its first downturn in 20 years; however, it maintains a policy of constantly upgrading and expanding facilities. Burmatex is predicting a sales increase of 5% for fiscal 1994. In keeping with its expansion goals, the company recently added a Tatham “Ambassador” 2.5 meter wide double doffer nonwoven card and “Laymaster” 2000 crosslapper, which incorporates micro-control technology and a computer controlled drive system. The line also includes Fehrer needlepunching machinery, including the Model NL9SRS downstroke/upstream loom and its structuring model NL11S. The new machinery, which is located in a new building at the companys Ossett site, was up and running in April and has increased production capability by more than 48,000 sq. meters. The line complements four existing nonwovens lines at Burmatex; total nonwovens capacity is approximately five million sq. meters per year.
Recycling Today is a magazine providing coverage and analysis of the waste recylcing industry.
Carpet padding, also known as carpet cushion, represents one of our nations most efficient closed-loop recycling efforts. The formal name for recycled carpet padding is bonded polyurethane foam, or re-bond carpet padding. You cant mistake it. Its the multi-colored padding made up of chopped and shredded pieces–pieces of used carpet padding combined with postindustrial polyurethane foam scrap. According to the Carpet Cushion Council, Riverside, Conn., recycled carpet padding now accounts for 80 percent of all carpet padding sold in the United States. Remarkably, more than 50 percent of all used and removed carpet padding in the United States is recycled and used to make new re-bond carpet padding, as reported by the National Association of Home Builders Research Center. This level of recycling is approaching the phenomenal success of asphalt and concrete recycling, or certainly the aluminum can recycling rate in the United States. According to the Aluminum Association, Americans recycle between 53 percent and 54 percent of all aluminum beverage cans shipped. COMBINED EFFORT. The national estimate of recycled, post-consumer carpet padding scrap amounts to 62,500 tons per year. Thats enough used carpet padding to create a 50-foot wide roll stretching from Los Angeles to New York City (or enough to cover almost 12,000 football fields)–a significant amount of material that could otherwise be landfilled.

Coupons

July 5th, 2009

One San Diego-based online company has unveiled a new concept in coupon clipping — coupons over the Internet. CouponVine.com describes itself as a national coupon directory. With CouponVine.com, a merchant can create, modify, or delete coupons for free, said Nathan Hiller, a company spokesman. Merchants using CouponVine.com have more than 500 templates to choose from in creating a coupon. Consumers logging on to CouponVine.com can then search for coupons by category and ZIP code. When they find a coupon of interest, they can print it out and redeem it at the merchants store, Ruler said. The Web site includes a map and directions to the store, he added. With traditional coupon distributors, businesses must pay for the service, and once printed, the coupons cant be changed. This discourages small merchants from offering coupons, Hiller said.
Offers delivered by the Coupons, Inc. platform appear simultaneously in the CouponBar(TM), on manufacturer Web sites, in email campaigns, and on coupon sites using Coupons, Inc.s hosting solutions. Total distribution is controlled across all outlets, and all offers are protected by Coupons, Inc.s anti-fraud security. Surveys and newsletter subscriptions can also be incorporated to capture data and generate leads using the companys Bricks Duet(TM) service. “Our goal has always been to help marketers maximize the reach of their coupon promotions. The desktop is a natural extension of our Digital FSI(TM) Hosted Platform,” said Steven R. Boal, CEO, Coupons, Inc. “Our new CouponBar(TM) is an attractive way for consumers to browse through offers, and it directs traffic to advertisers web sites.” “Being top of page and top of mind during a consumers browsing experience is the holy grail of online promotions,” said Sheryl Biesman, Pharmavite/Natures Made Promotions. “We run national FSIs and a variety of online media, but CouponBar(TM) trumps the others as an immediate consumer reach and relevancy vehicle.” “Consumer leads generated from mass data collection sites dont provide the kind of long-term ROI manufacturers are looking for,” said Jeff Weitzman, president and COO, Coupons, Inc. “Manufacturers realize that at the end of the day, its the leads that turn into real customers that are worth paying for. They are shifting their spending accordingly, with an emphasis on high quality rather than just high volume.”

Business Editors, Health/Medical Writers drugstore.com, inc. (Nasdaq: DSCM), the leading Internet retailer for health, beauty and wellness products, today distributed the first edition of a new monthly Health and Beauty Index that measures trends and attitudes of the US population reflected by their health, beauty, and wellness purchases. The index highlights the top product category gainers of the month based on the transactions of drugstore.com(TM) shoppers. The drugstore.com(TM) Web store has served over 2.8 million customers to date.
Ever wonder why were all so hung up on beauty–why its important to both men and women, no matter our race or place in the world, and why people across different cultures have similar ideals? “There are evolutionary roots to beauty,” explains psychologist Nancy Etcoff, a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and author of Survival of the Prettiest: The Science of Beauty. “Essentially, beauty is a biological advertisement of health.” In other words, people are attracted to visible signs of good health like clear skin, shiny hair and rosy cheeks because these were the clues our ancestors used to determine whether someone would make a good mate. These days, the natural signs of beauty are easily enhanced. The perfect-hued lipstick and blush, for example, impart a healthy glow, and the right moisturizers can keep your complexion soft. Improving on natures gifts is anything but vanity; Etcoff explains that beautifying yourself is simply another form of self-care. “More and more, people are viewing their health and their looks as being united. Its not simply putting on makeup or getting your hair done–its taking care of yourself and your body.” All the more reason to care for your skins specific needs, When you find a makeup look thats just right for your age, attitude and complexion, the beauty/health connection is confirmed. Here, three experts–makeup artists Sue Devitt, Bobbi Brown and Carol Shaw–offer advice on creating a look thats right for you. Though its impossible to hold back the clock forever, the common beauty goal for women in their late 20s: and early 30s is stalling time for another few years–and with the right makeup, enhancing the glow that already exists, explains Sue Devitt. Plano bankruptcy attorney

July 3rd, 2009

A proposal now being considered by the U.S. Senate would impose new liability standards and regulations on debtors attorneys in bankruptcy cases. If these standards become law, they could impact many debtors bankruptcy attorneys, along with attorneys who work for programs funded by Legal Services Corp. or other legal aid programs, and attorneys who provide pro bono bankruptcy representation. On Feb. 1, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) introduced bankruptcy reform legislation, S. 256, that would increase the liability and administrative burdens of bankruptcy attorneys under the Bankruptcy Code. The new measure, which is similar to legislation that was approved by the House of Representatives last year, H.R. 975/S. 1920, would require debtors attorneys to: (1) certify the accuracy of the debtors bankruptcy schedules, under penalty of court sanctions; (2) certify the debtors ability to make payments under a reaffirmation agreement; and (3) identify, advertise and conduct themselves as debt relief agencies subject to a host of new regulations.

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — PixelMEDIA, Inc., a full service company offering integrated strategy, design and implementation services for Web, multimedia and IT initiatives, today announced its role in the design and development of the Sonos(TM) Digital Music System user interface. The first and only multi-zone digital music system with a wireless, full-color LCD screen controller, the Sonos Digital Music System lets consumers play their entire digital music collection, all over their home, and control it from the palm of their hand. During the development stage of the Sonos Digital Music System, PixelMEDIA was chosen as the lead partner in the creation of the user interface graphics for the Sonos(TM) Controller CR100 and Desktop Controller. The handheld is a wireless device with a full-color screen that allows the user to access, customize, and control the music from any location. The handheld and desktop controllers work with the Sonos(TM) ZonePlayer, which is a networked audio player that distributes, plays, and amplifies music in any “zone” in the home. As part of the process, PixelMEDIA completed an extensive workshop with the Sonos development team to ensure the proper information transfer of critical project objectives. “During the development of the Sonos Digital Music System, it was critical that we partnered with vendors that demonstrated the same amount of passion that we share at Sonos,” said Rob Lambourne, Interaction Design Lead, Sonos, Inc. “We chose PixelMEDIA based on the companys proven design expertise and we continue to be impressed with the teams ongoing creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment.” PixelMEDIA was instrumental in developing the user interface custom icons that adhered to the specifications outlined by Sonos. In addition, PixelMEDIA designed visual elements that fit screen and functional specifications. Proprietary Flash templates were developed to accommodate hardware limitations and feature wire frame changes throughout the development process. The manager of the rental car agency was asked if they should return to the dealership to obtain the drivers licenses, but the manager told the employee to go ahead and complete the rental agreement. In April, 1991, the plaintiff, Drinkall, an Iowa resident, was injured in an accident in Iowa involving a car driven by Bayles. Because Bayles and Used Car were residents of Nebraska and Drinkall was an Iowa resident, the case was heard in federal court under “diversity of citizenship” jurisdiction. The case was tried in the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. The jury found the rental car company liable. The trial court had instructed the jury that in order to find Used Car liable it had to find that Used Car had consented to Bayles use of the vehicle at the time of the accident. Iowa law provides that, where damage is done by any motor vehicle by reason of its negligence of the driver and the auto is driven with the consent of the owner, the owner of the motor vehicle shall be liable for such damage. On appeal, defendant Used Car argued that the district court should not have used Iowa law but rather Nebraska law, which does not provide for owner liability. The appellate court found that the district court was correct in using Iowa law. In conflicts of law situations, the federal court is to use the conflicts of law that is prevailing in the state in which it sits. Iowa uses the significant relationships test, a theory that the court should use the law of the state which has the most significant relationships to the matter and parties involved in the litigation.

If he was a plumber, though, what manner of plumber would David Cameron be? The Tory leader, summoned via the Yellow Pages to fix a problem with your boiler. You would let him in, I think. Nice face, easy manner. Theres a problem with your boiler, he would say. I will, says David the plumber, but not yet. First, I am going to set up a series of Boiler Review Groups. Some of these will be headed by really quite surprising people who have been harping on about boilers for years. They will look into the problem in depth, and then they will propose a series of solutions. Fine, you might say, boilers not being your personal forte. And then youll fix it? David the plumber might give a little chuckle. You know the one? That plumber chuckle? I will, hed repeat, but not yet. I mean, lets be clear. These wont be my proposals for boiler repair. Far from it! Some of them will be frankly quite outlandish. So before committing myself to any particular course of action, I would prefer to float them all in the public domain, possibly by means of leaks. Hahaha, youd say, dutifully, but then David the plumber would cock his head slightly, puzzled, and youd realise it couldnt have been a deliberate pun after all. This might make you feel a little tired. So you would gather yourself for one final push. And afterwards, youd say, you will fix it? Right?

The reasons for the lack of attention to physical functioning have not been identified, however it has been suggested that incorporation of physical activity assessment into the routine care plan in the dialysis clinics may be helpful (Carlson Carey, 1999; Johansen, Sakkas, Doyle, Shubert, Dudley, 2003; Painter, Blagg, Moore, 1995; Painter Johansen, 1999). A recent survey of exercise counseling practices among nephrologists caring for dialysis patients reported that only 38% reported “almost always” or “often” assessing patient levels of physical activity and providing counseling to inactive patients to increase activity (Johansen, Sakkas, Doyle, Shubert, Dudley, 2003). The experience of the authors working with exercise in the dialysis clinics is that dialysis staff members have significant influence, and the dialysis setting provides a unique opportunity to provide encouragement and guidance to their patients for increasing physical activity. However, information on the benefits of physical activity and skills for recommending, motivating, and encouraging patients to increase their levels of physical activity are not part of the routine care or part of the training of most dialysis patient care staff. As a part of the Renal Exercise Demonstration Project, a survey was developed for the dialysis patient care staff to (a) determine their level of knowledge and perceived skills for assessing physical functioning and encouraging exercise, (b) assess their attitudes and practice related to assessment of physical functioning and exercise counseling for their patients, and (c) identify factors that predict encouragement of exercise by patient care staff. A questionnaire was developed using a focus group of several hemodialysis staff members from three dialysis clinics, including registered dietitians (RD), licensed vocational nurses (LVN), registered nurses (RN), and patient care technicians (PCT). This focus group was asked about their experiences (if any) with exercise for their patients, as well as perceptions related to physical functioning and exercise in their patients. Questions were developed and tested in a group of 39 patient care staff from dialysis clinics not involved in the Renal Exercise Demonstration Project (Painter et al., 2000b). The questionnaire asked staff to (a) rate physical functioning, (b) state whether they thought patients could benefit from exercise, (c) assess their skills for and practice of assessing physical limitations and encouraging physical activity, and (d) assess whether they thought such assessment and encouragement were part of their responsibilities and were possible in their daily work routine. The questionnaire also attempted to assess perceptions of patient care staff related to physical activity in their patients (i.e., possible barriers for adoption of exercise). The research design for administration of this baseline questionnaire was cross-sectional and descriptive.

container hire sydney

We consider the problem of optimizing the time for loading and unloading containers to and from a ship at a container terminal, where containers are required to be transported by trucks between the ship and their designated locations in the container yard. Generally speaking, a container terminal consists of the quayside, where containers are unloaded from and loaded onto ships, and the container storage yard, where containers are stored. External trucks are responsible for taking containers in and out of a container terminal. Internal trucks are responsible for transporting containers within the terminal, mainly between the container yard and the quayside. When a ship arrives at the terminal, containers are first unloaded from the ship onto the internal trucks by quay cranes. Next, the internal trucks transport the containers to their prespecified locations in the container yard. Upon arrival at the container block, a container is unloaded from the truck by a yard crane. After most of the containers have been unloaded from the ship, the outbound containers are transported from the storage yard to the quayside by those internal trucks and are loaded onto the ship by the quay cranes. Typically, several quay cranes can work in parallel to serve a ship, where each crane is designated to handle one section of the ship. To maximize the efficiency of this operation, it is important to have the turnaround time of the ship minimized. The speed of this loading/unloading operation is limited by the availability of the quay cranes and trucks. A quay crane can handle only one container at a time, and also a truck can normally only transport one container at a time. The yard cranes, on the other hand, have more capacity, and they usually spend their spare time shuffling the containers within a container block so as to reduce the loading/unloading time of the future tasks. Research related to the efficiency of container terminal operations has appeared in the literature. This includes the use of queuing models to study the utilization of container terminal capacity, see for example, Easa (1987), Daganzo (1990), and Gransberg and Basilotto (1998). It also includes the studies of operational issues such as berth allocation (Brown et al., 1997; Li et al., 1998; Lim, 1998), crane movements (Daganzo, 1989; Peterkofsky and Daganzo, 1990; Kim and Kim, 1999), storage allocation (De Castilho and Daganzo, 1993; Kim et al., 2000; Bish et al., 2001; Bish, 2003), and vehicle dispatching (Bostel and Dejax, 1998; Powell and Carvalho, 1998). Recently, Bish et al. (2001) considered a vehicle dispatching problem in a container terminal. In their model, containers are first unloaded from a ship by quay cranes following a prespecified sequence (known as “crane job sequence”). The unloaded containers are transported to their destinations in the container yard by a fleet of identical vehicles, each of which can carry one container at a time. Another set of containers are then transported from the yard by the same set of vehicles and are loaded onto the ship, also following a prespecified sequence. It is assumed that the travel times of vehicles satisfy the triangle inequality. The time that a quay crane needs to load/unload a container is assumed to be the same for all the jobs. The objective is to determine a vehicle schedule so as to minimize the makespan, i.e., the time it takes to complete the entire loading/unloading operation for the ship. They developed optimal and heuristic solution procedures for solving this problem. They performed worst-case analysis as well as computational analysis on their heuristic method for the single quay crane case of the problem. Their computational analysis is further extended to the multiple quay crane case. In this paper, we build on the work of Bish et al. (2001). We relax the assumption that the loading and unloading time of container is the same for all the jobs. In the presence of a single crane, we present an optimal algorithm which is efficient for small problems. For large problems, we provide a lower bound procedure as well as heuristics with favorable worst-case error bound and fast asymptotic convergence. Our analyses for the single crane case are supported by extensive computational experiments on randomly generated problems.

ABSTRACT Workplace bullying is a phenomenon that is attracting increasing interest from researchers throughout the Western world. To date, most of the research into workplace bullying has focused on managers and colleagues as the perpetrators of bullying in the workplace. By contrast, little is known about upwards bullying, where managers are the targets. We argue that in order to more fully understand workplace bullying as a whole, the phenomenon of upwards bullying requires research attention. In the present study, upwards bullying was explored in interviews conducted with 24 managers from public and private organizations, with the data coded and arranged thematically. Results indicate that potential contributing factors towards upwards bullying include the current work environment, change within organizations and power issues. We recommend that organizations identify the occurrence and processes of upwards bullying as important steps in developing comprehensive workplace bullying policies. Keywords: power; upwards bullying; workplace abuse; workplace bullying Despite an increase in research into workplace bullying in recent decades, the major focus has been on downwards bullying with some recent attention on horizontal bullying (Lewis Sheehan 2003). Thus, relatively little is known about managers who are bullied by their staff, a process described as upwards bullying within this paper, and why this form of bullying occurs. While it is legitimate that the predominant focus of research has been on managers as the perpetrators of workplace bullying (British studies have consistently found those in superior positions to be perpetrators of workplace bullying - Zapf, Einarsen, Hoel Vartia 2003), we contend that, in order to fully understand the broad phenomenon of workplace bullying, upwards bullying requires our attention. Such a focus has potential to impact on our theoretical understanding of workplace bullying, and to highlight important recommendations for managers, staff and organizations. Despite limited usage of the term upwards bullying (Lewis Sheehan 2003; McCarthy, Henderson, Sheehan Barker 2002; Rayner Cooper 2003), there does appear to be general agreement in the literature that managers can indeed be the targets of workplace bullying from their staff (e.g. Zapf et al. 2003). For example, Hoel, Cooper and Faragher (2001) found in their study of the impact of organizational status and workplace bullying that 6.7% of respondents had been bullied by staff. Furthermore, prevalence studies into workplace bullying have identified the occurrence of upwards bullying as between 2% and 27%, with a mean of 11% (see Zapf et al. 2003). However, cases of upwards bullying are reported in the literature rarely (Rayner Cooper 2003) and are often presented anecdotally or as single cases (see Braverman 1999, for example).
